Nigeria (PANA) - An ECOWAS team has concluded assessment of the
economic, humanitarian and social impact of ongoing UN sanctions on
Liberia, an official of the sub-regional organisation said Friday in
Lagos.

Without commenting on the outcome of the 28 Sept-1 October assessment
by a six-member delegation of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security
Council, the official told PANA that the team would shortly submit its
report to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

"The (ECOWAS) mission's report will go to the UN Secretary General and
form part of his report to the Security Council on 15 October (on the
Liberian sanctions)," he said. Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea,
Mali and Togo formed members of the team on which its Military Liaison
Officer, Colonel Dixon Dikio, represented ECOWAS Secretariat. The UN
slammed sanctions on Liberia last May following accusations that the
government in Monrovia supported rebels fighting the government in
neighbouring Sierra Leone.
