Ghana: Ghana--Paper Worried About 'Buildup of Arms' in North

GHANA BROADCASTING CORPORATION RADIO 1

Wednesday, September 23, 1998

The Ghanaian Chronicle is worried about what it claims is the gradual
buildup of arms in the Northern Region. The Chronicle is not happy that
the last time it alerted the government about a similar situation, it
was dismissed as the work of alarmists. It has this suggestion: To make
stockpiling of arms unattractive, strict penalties must be imposed on
those caught transporting and possessing offensive weapons in the
conflict zone.

There must also be custodial sentences for the culprits.
