Ukraine: Gambian official looking to buy Ukrainian arms

Kiev, 12 February: Gambia wants to develop cooperation with Ukraine in the field of arms
sales.
Ways of doing this were discussed by Gambian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs
Baboucar Jagne and Valeriy Malev, head of Ukrspetseksport, the state company for the
export and import of  military and special purpose products and services [state arms
trader], when they met Tuesday in Kiev.
Sources close to the talks said the meeting was a fact-finding one.
The Gambian delegation is in Ukraine on a working visit 10-14 February. It will also have
meetings and visits at the ministries of foreign affairs, industrial policy, the environment and
natural resources, defence and education, as well as Goskomsvyazi [state telecoms
company], National Joint-Stock Company Nadra Ukrainy [subsoil resources company] and
the Kiev Shipbuilding and Ship-repair Plant.
At the end of the talks, it is planned to sign contracts to buy Ukrainian equipment.
