| It is our goal to fill in the following five types of information, to the greatest extent possible, for each country of the world: You can navigate this database by going directly to the country you are interested in through either the Alphabetical approach or the Geographical approach. Once at the country of your choice, you will see links to the above five fields, as well as an introductory overview paragraph, summarizing that particular countrys small arms issues or problems. Alternatively, you can search for small arms export or import totals by using the Arms transfers search form. We are at the very beginning stages of this project. Thus far we have entered in small arms export data for Canada, Norway, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United Statesbroken down by importer and by weapon type to the extent possible. More will be added shortly. By culling official export reports from these countries for small arms data, and converting export values into comparable current year US dollars, this database is seeking to build a picture of the worldwide legal (state-authorized) annual trade in small arms and light weapons. We have entered data for the years 1996-onward. We break the trade down into government-negotiated and/or industry-negotiated and into authorizations for exports versus actual deliveries. Using the Arms transfers search form, users can generate reports on small arms exports by a single supplier or by all suppliers to a single country, a group of countries (e.g., to continents, regions, or sub-regions) or to all countries of the world. You can also locate documents within our database matching key terms, such as names of individuals, places or weapons, by using the Free text search. We appreciate your patience as we continually update existing information and work on filling in data for other small arms producers, exporters and importers. Even more we would appreciate your help in providing summary analysis and relevant links to fill in parts of the database. We will acknowledge your contribution on line. Please email queries or relevant information to Lora Lumpe, Martin Langvandslien or Nic Marsh. |
